Being Ready Now

Designed specifically for colleges and universities, the Ready Campus program was created by College Misericordia and Campus Compact to facilitate coordination between and among institutions of higher education and their local communities in time of emergencies. Ready Campus also includes advice and insight into including emergency response and community aid into a wide variety of existing college courses-a "service learning" approach.

Local Workshop Scheduled

Ready Campus partners will host a regional workshop for campus and community leaders on November 9, 2006 at Clarion Hotel in Jackson, Mississippi. The training workshop will offer participants strategies for preparing for and responding to emergencies. Workshop sessions will include:

  • The use of a best practices manual
  • Planning for emergency preparation and response
  • Integration of emergency preparation and response activities into existing academic courses
  • Collaboration with relief agencies
  • Access to emergency preparation and response consulting

Cost of the Workshop

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of Domestic Preparedness at the US Department of Homeland Security have underwritten the costs for this workshop. There is no cost to register or participate in the workshop. However, please register only if you are certain that you can attend the workshop.

Who Should Attend?

The training workshop is designed so that campus and community leaders learn more about each other's plans for preparation and response to emergencies. Those who should attend the meeting include campus administrators, Red Cross personnel, faculty, local emergency management agencies, academic and government leaders, and students.
Although anyone is welcome to attend the workshop, we strongly encourage the local college/university and community to form a team of people to attend the workshop together. A sample team might include a Vice President for Planning, an official from the regional emergency response network (EMA, first-responder), a faculty member, and a Dean of Students or a campus safety executive.
