Colleges get emergency response grant

The Associated Press

DALLAS, Pa. - Pennsylvania's colleges and universities received a $500,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency last week for emergency response efforts.

The money will go toward a project called "Ready Campus" that involves training sessions this fall at the College of Misericordia and at sites in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Harrisburg.

The money will also help pay for a manual for developing campus-community emergency response partnerships and other safety efforts.

The training sessions will be led by experts in risk management, civic engagement, disaster planning and other areas. Presenters will discuss how campus safety directors, faculty and students can best respond in the event of an emergency.
